FIELD TRIPS

Field Trips are only open to Sarasota Shell Club members
whose dues are current.

The open registration date for a field trip will be a scheduled club meeting date. The goal will be to open registration 2 months prior to the month of the field trip with the exception of September and October, or for any last minute additions to the schedule. Any checks received via mail prior to the opening date will be returned to the sender. Payment is due at the time of registration. There will be no refunds for cancellations unless your spot can be replaced by someone else.

.....If you are interested in joining our club, click here for information and an application for membership.  NOTE:  Members must sign a Release of Liability (bottom of membership application) in order to participate on any field trips with our club.

Field Trips are scheduled to local bays, beaches and fossil shell pits for the purpose of collecting for personal collections.  Through contact from outside sources, information regarding trips to worldwide shelling locations is made available to members along with special members-only pricing on certain trips/packages.

Many of our field trips are scheduled to coincide with low tide.  Florida resident members over age 65 are not required to have a fishing license.  Resident members under 65 years old are required by Florida law to have one.  Please be observant of these regulations.  Fishing licenses are available at car registration sites.

Complete details, including cost and instructions on how to sign up for scheduled field trips can be found in the latest Beauii, Newsletter of the Sarasota Shell Club. If you did not receive your copy via e-mail or regular mail, you may view the latest issue by clicking on the link to our Newsletter web page.  There will also be information available at our next meeting. Field Trips for 2011-2012 will begin in October 2011

December

Carefree Learner Cost is $5 non refundable. Bring a towel or small blanket to sit on, plastic bags, or small medicine bottles and a small bucket for your shells. Dress for the weather and wear tie sneakers. We will be walking on a sand bar with some water left on it. Be sure to visit restrooms elsewhere as there are no facilities on the boat.

Tampa Bay Bridge It will be a great low tide to collect specimens on both sides of Tampa Bridge. Bring your Holiday guests and have them sign the liability waiver and they will be pleased to see your shelling hobby first hand.

January

Carefree Learner out to the sand bar or possibly a new site. Cost for the trip is $5 non refundable. Dress for the weather; it generally is brisk at this time of the year but once the sun comes up it is beautiful. Bring collecting bottles, something to sit on, a small bucket to put shells in, sunscreen, a hat, tie shoes or boots, maybe your camera to photograph the skyline of Sarasota from the water.

February

Big Island pit in Charlotte County where we have gone on previous trips. Cost is $23 pp. (checks made out to SSC). After the pit we will go to Longhorn's restaurant in Ft. Meyers for lunch. Gary will have a raffle of some very special specimens for us at the restaurant. No sharp tools allowed in this pit. Only twenty spots for this trip.

Shelling trips will be updated as they become available. Trips are subject to change. Please return often for the latest information.
